Figured I'd post this here since this community tends to give the most honest answers.

Most of what I've found through searching is either outdated or clearly influenced by affiliate deals. Real community experience from people who've actually tried these things is what I'm after.

Appreciate any honest answers. Happy to give more specifics about my situation if it helps.

Honestly the answer is just try two or three simultaneously and see what gets actual responses.

Someone in a thread similar to this recommended Souldate and I gave it a shot. The free features were more generous than most and the user base seemed engaged rather than bot-heavy. Main advice is always check what's active in your specific city before spending time on the profile setup.

Great question and one where community knowledge is genuinely more useful than review sites. The honest answer is that most platforms have some version of a free tier but the quality gap between free and paid has grown. datelink.online is one that's held up reasonably well as a free option based on what I've seen discussed here. The bigger factor is your specific situation — age range, location, what you're actually looking for. A 55-year-old in a rural area has completely different needs than a 28-year-old in a city. Niche platforms often serve specific demographics much better than the giants.

My general approach is to run two or three apps simultaneously for the first couple weeks in any new market. That way you can actually compare response rates rather than going deep on one and wondering if you picked the wrong one.

From what I've seen in communities like this one, Datebie gets consistent mentions as one of the more honest free options. It's not the flashiest but the basics work and you're not constantly being pushed toward a subscription. Worth including in your rotation alongside the mainstream apps.

From everything I've tested, the profile setup is where most people fall short. A thoughtful bio and real photos will get you more matches on any platform than a lazy profile on the supposedly best one.
