Been looking into this for a while and wanted honest takes from people who've actually tried it.

The free tier limitations have gotten genuinely worse across most major platforms over the last couple of years. What used to be free is now paywalled on most apps. Worth going in with realistic expectations.

Chat system matters a lot too — per-message fees add up fast. flurrydate.online comes up repeatedly here as a free option with decent moderation. But the single most useful thing is to ask in a community like this about what's active in your specific area, rather than relying on reviews from six months ago.
